Ed appeared at key points in our professional careers and we remember him fondly.  It is clear that he touched many others, too.  Brian counseled many of the “kids” and knows well that you Fran, and Ed, launched them well.

Mr Leppert was my Principal in Grade 8 , Highland Park Middle School   The year was 1969-70.  I have wonderful memories of him starting a basketball team and taking our team to different schools in Sayreville or Carteret or Piscataway.  He was a kind and thoughtful School leader.  In my 40 years as an educator and many of those as a principal, I often thought about Mr Leppert and his humanity.  He left an impression on me as a middle schooler just as I hope to have left impressions on the many kids I served.  Nothing could be more significant.   Geoffrey smith

Mr. Leppert was my principal at Irving school and middle school.  He was always fair and cared about all the students.  

Always a gentleman and great listener.  Loved playing golf during the summer along with Dr. Bowman, Dr. Leppert and anyone else we could get to join us (Got out of school early to play golf).  My condolences to Frannie and the Leppert family.

To Fran and family, we are so sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. Our friendship goes back to the 70’s and Ed was a tremendous help in my pursuit of my career as a School Business Administrator. More importantly Stacey and I enjoyed the social get togethers with the gang from North Brunswick and Ed always had us laughing. Our deepest sympathy to the family. Rest in peace my friend.

I remember Dr Leppart as my principal at Highland Park Middle School from 1969 to 1972. He was a firm man but fair. I have nothing but good words about him. To the family, I am sorry for your loss. He was a great man.

As a teacher, a parent and a gadfly , I always admired Dr. Leppert.
We had our philosophical differences but shared our mutual respect and a good laugh.  He must have been a great husband, dad and grandparent..and great grand. My deepest sympathy to you all.

So sorry to hear of Ed's (we called him Eddie)  passing.  I am a 1962 graduate of HPHS and Ed was one of my football coaches for three years.  He was tough but fair, knew the game & knew how to deal with his players.  He lived a wonderful life & will be missed by many.  My thoughts & prayers  are with his family.

Ed was my basketball coach in 8th grade at Sacred Heart. A great guy and coach. I retired to Toms River and was lucky enough to see him at Jimmy C's barber shop on one occasion and talk about Sacred Heart.

Ed was a great mentor to me. He welcomed my wife Marianne and I to North Brunswick in 1976 when he promoted my hiring as the Recreation Director. He had a wonderful family. His daughter Kathy was our 3 year old daughter Jessica’s first non-family babysitter. 
Out of respect, Ed was always Dr. Leppert to me. After Ed became Superintendent of Schools in North Brunswick we renewed our excellent working relationship when he assisted in facilitating many unique community school programs. I’ve been retired for over a decade but often reflect on 36 great years in North Brunswick. Thank you for all you did for me “Dr. Leppert”. Godspeed and condolences to your family.

I called my grandfather every week for the past five years. We would talk about everything and anything, like I was back there sitting across from him in his living room. I feel as if I owe the Asbury Park Press back pay on a subscription because my pop would tell me all the local news happening that week. He would give me his ideas for tv shows, one we actually ended up pitching (History Channel will rule the day they passed on his Presidential Pardon Docu-series).
 
What I will take with me forever in those times are our conversation from the last six months. The end of my grandpa’s life had been coming for some time. He would talk about his good days and bad days. He would leave me funny voicemails and crack crude jokes about his failing state. Everyone thinks they’ll meet the end like a bad ass, but there aren't many tough men in those moments. There are even fewer men who joke about it, acknowledge it, and patiently wait for its arrival with a standing cocktail appointment every Friday at 5pm. That was my grandpa. At every stage of my grandfather’s life, he was the anchor in the room. As he took his last breath, surrounded by all 5 of his kids, his wife and laying there peacefully in his home, I can’t help but think he won. He was famous in his home. 

Today is a sad day. It can never not be. But we’ll get through it. Later this year, I’ll laugh at myself for how much I’ll cry when I watch Rutgers open against Northwestern on September 2nd. I’m sure the day manager of the Pizza Hut will think I’m a lunatic when I’m sobbing to myself while eating stuff crust pizza at a table alone and I’m sure at some point to wake up regretting all the Manhattans I had in his honor the night before.
 
I'm so thankful he convinced a nun in training to give up her vow to god and choose a life with him instead. His sheer manliness and charisma outwitted God that day and we have this big incredible family decades later because of it. I'm so lucky to have been born a Leppert.
