Born in Brooklyn, he received his bachelors degree from Brooklyn College while majoring in accounting, and then his MBA from the City University of New York. In 1968 he moved to Marlboro NJ and resided there for almost 30 years prior to settling in the Greenbriar community in Monroe Township 22 years ago. Most recently, he resided in Monroe Village.
Prior to retiring, he was a financial analyst for Hoffman Laroche in Nutley, NJ, where he was the chairman of their credit union for many years. Joel and his wife, Ronda, loved traveling and going on cruises. They kept pictures from all of their vacations before and after retirement. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family in Disneyworld and took his children and later, his grandchildren there.
Joel always had a sharp, quick sense of humor and used his sarcasm and wit all the time. He was a big football fan and had season tickets for the Jets for years. He was very proud of his family, and often wore apparel representing the schools his children and grandchildren attended.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Ronda; his daughter, Abbe Gasparro; his brother, Harvey Binkowitz; and his sister, Lita Ormond.
Surviving are his son, Bruce Binkowitz and his wife, Rachel; his son-in-law, Don Gasparro; and 5 grandchildren: Matthew, Dominick, Jordan, Vincent, and Gianna.
