William C. Wilkie

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 2, 1923 to the late William and Rose (Rifici) Wilkie.

William was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Alice (Hill) Wilkie, his cherished daughter, Karen Hoback and his loving sister, Marilyn Lott.

He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Tina L. Wilkie, his grandchildren; Christopher Hoback, and Bill, Russell and Carl Wilkie and his 3 great-grandchildren.

In 1939, William joined the CCC’s (Civilian Conservation Corps) and spent six months at camp Twin Bridges, Elko, Nevada. In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and spent the beginning of the war in the Navy Armed Guard, serving as a member of gun crews in the North Atlantic and the Middle East. He was then assigned to the Cruiser USS Oklahoma City CL91 for the rest of the war as part of the 3rd Fleet.

He worked as a Photoengraver for Arrow Engraving, New York City, then for Neo Gravure in Hoboken, NJ and Art Color Printing in Dunellen, NJ. Together with his wife, Alice, they established Wilkie Printing in White House Station, NJ.

After 30 years in the business, he and Alice retired to the Beach Haven section of Stafford Township. William was an active member of St. Mary Church in Barnegat where he was a communicant.

Calling hours will be held Monday, July 16, 2018 at St. Mary Church, 740 W. Bay Ave., Barnegat, NJ from 9:30 until the start of the Mass at 10:00am. Burial will follow at the Rural Hill Cemetery, 14 Mill Rd, White House Station, NJ
