Madeline was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Madeline Carson, and her husband, Christian R. Dutton.
She is survived by her loving children, Jennifer M. Dybas and her husband James and Christian J. Dutton, her cherished grandchildren; Madison, Maitland and Fern and her step-brother Jim Carson, and her best friends of 60 years, Roseanne and William Dent.
Madeline retired from Central Regional High School in Bayville, NJ after 37 years of teaching physical education, she was also the head varsity field hockey coach for 40 years. Her teams accomplished many league titles, sectional titles, and appeared in state level play. Madeline was selected many times as Coach of the Year and was inducted into the NJSIAA Coaches Hall of Fame. She finished her impressive field hockey coaching career winning 496 games. She was widely respected by Central Regional High School who dedicated the field hockey field in her name this past fall.
She was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, however her favorite past time was cheering on her granddaughters from the sidelines while they played the sports they loved. Her three granddaughters were the loves of her life, continuing to follow in her footsteps…she will forever be their number 1 fan.
Madeline throughout her life made many lifelong friends who, along with her family, will greatly miss her.
A memorial service will be held at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 3-6pm
In lieu of flowers, donations in Madeline’s name may be sent to Deborah Heart and Lung Center.
