Born in Croydon, PA, he resided in Philadelphia for most of his life before settling in Manahawkin 50 years ago.
Prior to retiring 33 years ago, Joe was a brick layer superintendent with John B. Kelly in Philadelphia. Joe was a proud veteran of the US Navy Seabees division, where he served for 20 years. He was also a Mason in the Jerusalem Lodge, and considered himself the richest man in the world, telling everyone he loved them.
Surviving are his loving wife of 72 years, Betty; his children: Joseph, Jr. and his wife Susan, Sue Ann Mento and her husband Ben, Carol Girard-Irwin and her wife Susan,and Jim and his wife Martha; his grandchildren: Jacqueline, Gregory, Kerry, Kyle, Lauren, Leah, Grace, Claire, and Joe; his 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his son Raymond in 1952; his siblings: Lucy Kruegl and Dorothy Foerst.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 12-4PM at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, Manahawkin, NJ.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 9AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at 11AM at Forest Hills Cemetery, Huntington Valley, PA.
