Harold Leonard Thompson, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. He was born on July 3, 1934 in Newark, New Jersey to Edward and Josephine (Valentine) Thompson. Harold (Harry) grew up in Newark with his 3 siblings; Ruth, Edward and Raymond. Harry went on to join the Marine Corps on April 26, 1951 and served for 2 years in the Korean War. He was ranked Private First Class. He married Barbara . Together, they had two children. Harry and Barbara enjoyed traveling together as well as spending time with family and friends. Harry was a machinist for most his working years, retiring at sixty five years of age. After retirement, Harry and Barbara moved to Stafford, New Jersey to enjoy the shore life. Harry's special interests and hobbies included raising a family and caring for God's creation through planting flowers and vegetables, (especially tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers). He also grew figs and until this day we are still waiting for those kiwis! Some of his favorite times out and about were cruising the Caribbean Sea and traveling in Europe. He also loved fishing and crabbing.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Barbara; his son, Mark and his wife Linda, his daughter Susan and her husband James; 4 grandchildren; Alyssa, Gregg (and his wife Lindsay), Sienna and Ryan; his brother-in-law Albert, Albert's wife Renee and their daughter Lauren. Harry will also be missed by his nephews, Raymond Thompson and his wife Liz, Christopher Thompson, his nieces, Joyce Thompson Cox and Laura Thompson Herbst, and his cousin Anthony Thompson, plus many friends and neighbors from their Stafford, new Jersey Community. In lieu of flower donation may be made in his name to Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11am at Saint Mary of the Pines R.C. Church, 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ. The Interment will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery on Beachview Ave off Route 9, in Manahawkin, NJ. The Interment, however, will be a private family gathering at St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at the church on Friday, October 6th, 2017 from 10:30am until the time of service.
