Rick was born on August 29, 1956, to parents Wanda Arthur and the late Richard W. Arthur in Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from DuPont High School in 1974 and studied Forestry at Glenville State College until 1975. He later spent several years working as a real estate appraiser in Kanawha County, West Virginia, then moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, in 2002, where he worked as a property tax appraiser.
He enjoyed frequent trips back to Charleston to spend time with family and friends, shopping with his mother, and trying local restaurants. His joy and happiness came from his grandchildren and grand dogs, asking for regular pictures and videos on “Face page,” saying they were his daily excitement. Rick was a dirt track racing enthusiast and a fan of the R1 Rod Evans for decades. He planned to retire from Guilford County in December 2024 and return home to be with his family in West Virginia, but God had bigger plans for him.
Rick is preceded in death by his son, Nicholas Arthur, and father, Richard Arthur. Left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Wanda Arthur; daughter, Nicole (Jonathan) Sovine, grandsons, Phillip Ruff and Sonny Arthur; granddaughters, Taylor Arthur and “baby girl”; ex-wife and friend, Tina Good-Adkins; and grand dogs, Phoebe and Dixon.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Jim Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park in South Charleston.
A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour before the service.
