Jud was born in Charleston on May 29, 1952 to the late Donald and June Chandler Means. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the 130th Air Lift Wing in Charleston. He was also a retired mechanic with Columbia Gas. Jud was a member of the VFW Post 8363 in Chesapeake, and American Legion Post 187 in Winfield. He was also a member of the Salina Lodge #27 A.F. & A.M.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Michael and Mark Means.
Jud is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sharon Plantz Means; son, Andrew Means of Charleston; sisters, Carmella Dent of Myrtle Beach, Kelly (Kevin) Stevens of Liberty; sister-in-law, Brenda Means of Liberty; 7 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to send a special thank you to a nephew and niece, Shane and Kim Greenlee and a cousin, Virginia Means Green for their help and support for Jud in his final weeks.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday July 8, 2024 at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastor Lee Darnell officiating. Burial will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar where he served as a member of the Honor Guard.
A visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday July 8 from 10:00 AM until service time.
