Michael Wayne Moore, our gentle giant and legendary trout whisperer, aged 63, of Forest, Va, passed away on June 22, 2024. He was the son of the late Sydney and Dorothy Moore of Madison Heights. Mike's life was characterized by his vibrant spirit and boundless affection for his family and friends.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Tonya Moore, his best friend and cherished daughter Olivia “Livy” Moore, (Nick) and the one he adored since his arrival 10 months ago, his “Bubba”, grandson Leo Michael. He embraced his role as “Papa” with immense joy and pride. Mike loved life and packed so many adventures into his 63 years, leaving a legacy of joyous memories for his family, especially for Bubba, to cherish forever.
Mike is also survived by his caring sisters, Janice Laughlin (Paul), and Paula Moore (Mike); nephews Travis and Tyler Laughlin and Trevor Ewers; father-in-law Haden Laughlin (Angie); sister-in-law’s Candy Knowles (Lee) and Connie Laughlin; niece Jessica Austin; his adored fur babies Bell Bell, Fifi, and Cleo, and friends too numerous to count as he never met a stranger.
Known lovingly as “Puddin,” Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman finding peace and joy in the wilderness. Whether it was the thrill of the hunt or the calm of casting a line, Mike’s love for nature was a defining part of his life. Those who knew him, even briefly, were touched by his kindness and his easy, genuine demeanor. Mike often said with a smile, “the ladies, the babies, and the pets all love me,” a testament to his playful and loving nature. He was the life of the party, and the party will never be the same without him.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights, Virginia on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 5 pm to 7 pm. A Celebration of Life memorial service will follow the visitation at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mike's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This gesture will extend his legacy of kindness and care.
