Joseph Elmer Ramsey, Jr., 87, of Madison Heights passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Barbara Stilwell Ramsey.
Born in Madison Heights, June 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Joseph E. Ramsey and Zelma Moore Ramsey. Joe was Vice President and general manager of Imperial Adhesives and retired after 44 years of service. He was a longtime supporter of Holy Cross School and athletics. He loved gardening, he had a green thumb and could grow anything. He also enjoyed watching birds in the many birdhouses he had in is yard. He was also an avid reader and loved the beach, especially Hilton Head. His family was his passion, he was completely dedicated to his wife and he was extremely supportive of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by six loving children, Joseph E. Ramsey, III and his wife Caryl, Caryn R. Herman and her husband Alan, Michael A. Ramsey, Susan R. Swan and her husband Russ, Mary R. Wade and Theresa D. Ramsey and her fiancé Bob Jones; one sister, Shirley Burns; nine adoring grandchildren, Heather Aronhalt and husband Logan, Savannah Ramsey, Holden Ramsey, Christopher Herman and his wife Ally, Jeremy Herman, Kyle Swan and his fiancé Natalie Burkhart, Ashley Swan, Brian Wade and his fiancé Kayla Orr and Brandon Wade and his wife Linley and three great grandchildren, Paisley and Madison Herman and Tilly Aronhalt.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Celebrant Polly Starnes officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
