He was born in Amherst County on October 10, 1937, son of the late Joseph E. Moss and the late Hida C. Moss.
Joe was a member of Union Christian Church and a retired realtor as well as the former owner/operator of Lee & Moss Grocery.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alyssa Ware Branham; a son in law, Edwin Carroll Fitzgerald; a brother, Gordon Overstreet; as well as six sisters, Mildred M. Overstreet, Gertrude “Dutchy” M. Phelps, Evelyn M. Lehnen, Margaret “Peggy” M. Barkell, Jean M. Parrent and Wanda M. Watson.
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, Patricia L. Moss; four daughters, Jody Moss Thomas and husband John, Jan Moss Thomas and husband Clayton, Jackie Moss Fitzgerald, and Jennifer Moss Fielder and husband Emmett; sister in law, Carolyn Lee Johnson Thompson and husband Carlton; nine grandchildren, Lindsay, Brandie, Daniel, Cody, Heather, Jaime, Dakota, Joseph, and Sienna. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, lots of loving nieces and nephews as well as his other family, the neighborhood kids he called his own, all his friends and his sidekick, Jaycee.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Whitten Monelison Chapel and at other times at the residence.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 10, 2023 with Rev. James W. Freeman officiating. Burial will follow at Briarwood Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Joe’s memory may be made to Union Christian Church.
