Born July 12, 1943 James was a devoted family man who cherished being involved in his grandchildren's sports and school activities. A proud member of the Air Force, he exemplified dedication both in service and in his career, working with computers at Control Data for more than three decades. He was an avid reader, amassing a large collection of books. James also held fond memories of trips to the Outer Banks with his wife and family, and enjoyed fishing on the open waters. He had a deep love of hunting in his earlier years. His love for family and adventure will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Kay Cash.
Those left to cherish James’ memory include his children Rebecca Drinkard and her husband Jeff, Jennifer Ayles and her husband Mark, Jim Cash and his wife Angela; his grandchildren Ben Ayles and his wife Sarah, Rebekah Ayles, Eliza Ayles, Emma Drinkard, Katie Drinkard; his great-grandchildren Harper Ayles, Leigha Tracey; his sister Bonnie Johnson and her husband Ivan; his nieces and nephew; along with Sir Thomas the cat, his loving companion.
A memorial service for James will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 1pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel officiated by Polly Starnes. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
