Jack was born on July 2, 1932 in Athens, Georgia to Daddy Bill and Mom Em Hamilton. He was a Disciples of Christ pastor for his entire career. He pastored Madison Heights Christian Church for 32 years and later served Fairview Christian and Euclid Christian Churches. Jack touched the lives of many and his ministry spanned the community. Jack loved everybody and they loved him. He seldom, if ever, said no when asked to minister.
Earlier in his career, Jack served a number of churches including, Mt. Olive Christian Church in Mt. Olive, NC, Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta, Wrightsville Christian Church in Wrightsville, GA, Belvedere Christian Church in Belvedere, SC and Pembroke Christian Church in Pembroke, VA. He was also active with camps and conferences in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. He was also active in the community, He was instrumental in helping found the “Helping Hands Ministry”, he spent many hours with Meals on Wheels, Mended Hearts and MADD, the Social Services Board and the Library Board.
In Addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Anita Hamilton and his son, William Martin “Bill” Hamilton.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vivian M. Hamilton; his daughter, Sarah H. “Beth” Wright; daughter-in-law, Tracy Hamilton; three grandchildren, Andrew Blankenship, Faith Hamilton and Travis Hamilton (Jennifer); and two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Addie Hamilton.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Barbara Muns; brother-in-law, Andrew Muns; a host of nieces and nephews, Mark (Linda) Hamilton, Garry (Mary) Hamilton, George (Sherry) Hamilton, Paul Hamilton, Jim (Karen) Hamilton, Marty (Laura) Muns, Mickey (Pam) Muns, Perry Muns and Mitchell (Pam) Muns, Steve (Terry Lynn) Crowley, Clark (Pam) Robertson, Camaron (Sarah) Corr, Rebecca (Kent) Kruger, Brad (Jennifer) Kimberly and Erik (Ashley) Jones.
The family would like to say “Thanks” to the Bentley Commons family and all his girlfriends for taking such marvelous care of him during his illness.
Jack will be missed forever but we know he will live forever in our hearts and soul. In almost every funeral Jack conducted, he closed with “Well done my good and faithful servant” and so do we. Thank you God for giving him to us.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.
