Donald Sumner Buell left this earth to join his wife, Janice Bixby Buell, on February 12, 2023. Don was born in Mt. Kisco, New York on July 30, 1935, to Clarence and Myra (Sumner) Buell. He was a loving big brother “Bwub”, “The Deer” to his sister Barbara “The Lamb” (Amsden). The family spent most of their childhood years residing in Trumbull (Nichols) Connecticut.
Don graduated from Bassick High School in 1953. With a love for science and math, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Clarkson University and continued with his graduate learning, obtaining a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1960.
Don had an avid passion for flying and pursued his pilot’s license during this time, receiving his pilot’s license in 1961.
Don met Janice Bixby in Trumbull and he and Janice married in 1962. They welcomed their children, son John and daughter Sharon, in 1965 and 1968. The family made their primary residence in Madison, Connecticut, and lived in Madison for the remainder of their lives.
Don found his career in the cosmetic industry and worked for several industry leaders, beginning with Chesebrough Pond's Inc., moving on to Loreal, and retiring a vice president for Estee Lauder.
Don is predeceased by his wife, Janice. He is survived by his children, John (Wendy) Buell, and Sharon Gonzalez, his grandchildren, Kyle and Luna, along with his sister Barbara and his two nieces, Andrea and Myra, and their families.
Calling hours will be held at Swan Funeral Home in Madison on Sunday, February 26 from 2pm until 3:30pm with a memorial service starting promptly at 3:30pm.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Donald’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org.
