Dale Carson

She was born on February, 13, 1943, in Providence, RI, the daughter of Erne and Rosemary (Fournier) de Sauve.

Loved by all that knew her. Loved by anyone who just met her. A devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. Always a devoted friend. An artist, a writer, a teacher…always curious and trying to make the world a better place. She honored and cherished her Indigenous and French heritage. Dale dove deep into learning and then teaching all she could about New England native culture and life ways. She leaves us with a long legacy of Native American cookbooks, food columns, art and more. Her memory and her legacy will carry on for generations. Dale was a force that paved the way for indigenous women everywhere.

Dale is survived by her husband William; daughter Christine Purcell, her husband Kevin Purcell of Madison, Christine’s son, Mitch Comer and his father Tom Comer of Clinton, daughter Rachel Schemmerling and husband Kurt Schemmerling and their children Tristan and Zoe Schemmerling of Killingworth, son James Carson and his wife Liz Carson and their children Bella Ferriola, Haley and Ellie Carson of Madison and son Dan Carson and his wife Lauren Carson and their children Lane and Daisy Carson of Madison.

Dale was predeceased by her parents, Rosemary and Ernest de Sauve.

Services will be private. A celebration of life in honor of Dale is planned for the spring of 2022, details T.B.D.
