William “Bill” Hollis Murphy, Jr. 89, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at New Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to service time at the church.
Bill was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late William Hollis Murphy, Sr. and Agnes Thompson Murphy. Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Winfred John. He graduated from Grady High School in Atlanta, in addition to Georgia State. He served his country in the United States Navy.
He worked as a salesman for Proctor & Gamble Distributing Company for over 30 years, setting numerous sales records and winning multiple awards. He called on grocery stores all around the Middle Georgia area. Over the years he served at Tattnall Square Presbyterian Church, Forest Hills Methodist, Northminster Presbyterian Church, Northside Christian Church, Mable White Memorial Baptist Church, New Heights Baptist Church, and Rock Springs Church.
He was a longtime poll manager, and coached at Vine-Ingle Little League and Macon midget football and basketball.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Murphy of Macon, children, Anita C. (Brad) Smith, David (Celia) Murphy, Franklyn Murphy, five grandchildren, William (Mary Clayton) Murphy, Anna Murphy, Matthew Murphy, Stuart Murphy (finance’ Haley Powell) and Sarah (Kyle) Norton, great grandson, Lucas Anthony Murphy.
