MACON – Oscar Jordan Thigpen, 89, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church. Entombment will be in the Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum. Elder Charlie Simmons, Rev. Dan Darden and Mr. Sammy Scoggins will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6 until 8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Although flowers will be accepted, donations may be made to Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1415 Bass Road, Macon 31210.
Mr. Thigpen was born in Wheeler County, Georgia and had lived in Middle Georgia since 1948. He was retired from Robins Air Force Base as an aircraft scheduler and was also a greeter at Wal-Mart for 6 years. Mr. Thigpen was a United States World War II Air Force veteran serving in the 509th as an engine mechanic. He was a member of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church for 51 years, an usher, a member of the Faith Bible Class and was an avid golfer. He was the widower of Amy Grace Gatlin Thigpen, the son of the late Walter C. and Pansy Swain Thigpen and was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Thigpen and also his dogs.
Mr. Thigpen is survived by his daughter, Judy Thigpen of Macon; sister, Bobbie T. Jones of Macon; sister-in-law, Nadine Thigpen of Macon; several nieces & nephews; and his favorite “Golden Girls”.
