Ned Walter Nichols, Jr., age 73 of Macon, GA and formerly of Barnwell, SC passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday July 10th, 2021 after an extended illness. He was born September 30, 1947 in Aiken, SC to Ned Sr. and Frankie Nichols. Ned was a 1967 graduate of Allendale-Fairfax High School. He retired from Clariant in Martin, SC where he was a boiler maker and in charge of waste water management for over 20 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and loved collecting and trading guns. He was also a member of the Allendale Masonic Lodge #109. Ned was an avid hunter of deer and turkey and was a turkey guide for many of his younger years, successfully calling in gobblers for many first time turkey hunters, including his daughter Rennie. He loved the outdoors and that's where he said he felt closest to God. He always had some kind of hobby he was dabbling in, including building and flying model airplanes, woodworking, gardening, playing guitar, cars (he had a new one every year or so), bow hunting, fly fishing, shrimping, and cooking. He loved his animals, the latest his little pekingese, Millie who became his loyal companion.
Ned was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 50 years, Mary Patricia Nichols. He is survived by his three daughters Rennie Nichols Bailey (Mike) of Macon, GA; JoAnna Nichols Plunkett (Jay) of Irmo, SC; Jamie Nichols (Trey Kerwin) of Lexington, SC; sister Rossie Nichols Reid (Paul) of Edisto, SC; special cousin Sue Harvey (Gordon) of Hampton, SC; best friend Tim Phillips (Tatyanna) of Greenville, SC; 8 grandchildren, Jamie & Heather Rhodes; Wesley Plunkett; Jade, Sonny, Alexandra, Lilly 'Adrian', & Jordan Bailey; 2 great grandchildren, Vivian & Emmett.
Family visitation will be on Friday July 16th, 2021 from 3pm-5pm at Mount Arnon Baptist Church 3353 Barnwell Hwy, Allendale, SC with service starting at 5:30pm with Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Macon Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of cremation and Keith Smith Funeral Services 128 Water Street in Allendale, SC is in charge of services.
