Michele Simpson (Mickie) Jones of Buda, Texas passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the age of 79. She was born on December 5, 1944, in Albany, Georgia to Orman and Nell Simpson. They and her three siblings later moved to Macon Georgia, where she met and married her husband, James P. (Jim) Jones, Jr.
Shortly after marriage, Mickie and Jim gave birth to a son, Christopher Daniel, and then a daughter, Renee Chauntelle. They moved to Baytown, Texas, where they settled into the community and raised their family.
They were members of First Baptist Church of Baytown and raised their family in the faith of Jesus Christ. Mickie was very involved in social activities and was a long-standing member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, participating in many charitable outreach community events and social activities. They later moved to Austin, Texas to be near their grandchildren.
Mickie also enjoyed gardening, reading, travel, and southern cooking. She was known for her hospitality and generosity, earning the nickname Granny Mickie in the US and abroad.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Orman Allen Simpson and Nell Wright Simpson.
She is survived by her husband, James P (Jim) Jones, Jr, her siblings Veronica (Roni) Stephens, Orman Allen Simpson, Jr, and Jonathan Wright Simpson, and her children, Christopher Daniel (Danny) Jones and wife Bonnie Jones, and Renee Jones Palmer and husband Key Palmer, II. Grandchildren include Jonathan David Adams and wife Tonya Adams, Eric Allen Adams and wife Viridiana (Vi) Adams, and Jordan Ryan Murphy. Great-grandchildren include Emma Danielle Adams, Cassidy Renee Adams, Molly Joy Adams, Christopher Ryan Ruedas, and Elizabeth Jean Adams (with a new great-granddaughter, Makayla Murphy, on the way).
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses, as well as the hospice team at Ascension Seton Kyle for the care and compassion they showed to Mickie in the final days. Also, a special thank you to Tanner Salinas for his heroic assistance, and for the beautiful garden that will continue to reflect her beauty. We are forever grateful!
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Snow’s at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Bill Pilcher will officiate. The family will have time of visitation on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 12 Noon till service time in the funeral home.
