Marie B. Shaw, 80, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 beginning at 3:00 pm at Snow's Funerals and Cremations at Macon Memorial Park until service time at 4:00 pm. Pastor Nathan Dorsey will be officiating her celebration of life. Flowers are welcomed or you can make donations to the National Safe Place Network, 2722 Crittenden Dr. Louisville, KY 40209.
Mrs. Shaw was born at Camp Wheeler Army base at Staton hospital in Macon, GA. to the late Albert and Carrie (Davis) Underwood. As a 1961 graduate of A.L. Miller Senior High School for girls, she participated on the supervision volleyball team. Mrs. Shaw worked at Capital Cadillac in Atlanta and the Department US of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families where she retired in 2005.
In 2006, John and Marie started “Santa’s Rest Home Ministry” by dressing as “Santa and Mrs. Clause”. They would visit nursing homes throughout Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and Florida delivering gifts to the residents. One year they visited over 20 facilities. After John passed in 2017, Marie continued visiting nursing homes, but it just wasn’t the same without “Santa”, so she stopped.
She was married for forty-nine years to John Q. Shaw, who preceded her in death in 2017. Mrs. Shaw is also preceded in death by her siblings, Mickey Upshaw, Fred Upshaw, Noah Durell Upshaw, Lucille Elliot (Lucy), Glynnis Upshaw, and Lawrence Underwood.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by her children, Eddie Shaw (Candy) of Huntsville, AL., Stacey Duke (Bobby) of Americus, GA., JonAnne Sattler (Arthur) of Charleston, SC.; grandchildren Jonathan McCollum (Ashley) of Americus, GA. and Austin Shaw of Huntsville, AL.; great-granddaughter, Laryssa McCollum; sister, Florence Dunn (Rodney) of Lufkin, TX. and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Shaw’s caregivers, Brittany, Tiron “T” Kelley, and Wendy for their care to Mom since August.
