A celebration of his life will be held at graveside in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Father David Koetter officiating. The family will meet friends from 4 – 6 p.m., on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Indian School, www.stjo.org/flowers or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mr. Collins, son of the late John R. Collins, Sr. and Marjorie Wakeman Collins, was born in Lake City, FL and served with the Merchant Marine during World War II. He was the owner of Southeastern Cleaning Products, a Georgia corporation and was of the Presbyterian Faith. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his sisters, Marjorie Dudley, Mary Ann Collins and June McLeod and his daughter-in-law, Christy Collins. In all things, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend.
Survivors include those he loved most, his wife of seventy years, Erlinda Hernandez Collins of Gray; three sons, John R. Collins, III of Birmingham, AL, Michael (Debbie) Collins of Macon and Christopher Collins of Atlanta; two daughters, Linda F. Collins of Denver, CO and Denise (Mark) Lumpkin of Gray; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; his sister, Madeline Hilsheimer of Pryor, OK; his nephew Alan Hilsheimer of Pryor, OK; his niece, Deborah McLeod of Texas; and his cousin, Edward S. Collins, Jr. of Dallas, TX.
