Jack N. Horton

MACON - Jack Nelson Horton, 84, on August 21, 2011 was called to be with his Lord and Savior in eternal rest. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, August 24, 2011at Vineville Baptist Church with the Dr. Tripp Martin and Rev. Ron Holland officiating. Burial will be in Chauncey City Cemetery in Chauncey, Georgia at 3:00 PM . The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Cherry Street. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Mr. Horton was born in Macon to the late Eunice Nelson Horton and Ulysees S. Horton. He also lived for many years in Jasper County. He retired after 35 years from the Georgia Department of Labor where he was manager of the Job Bank. Mr. Horton also served as Scoutmaster for Cross Keys Troop 26 for 28 years, earning the prestigious “Silver Beaver Award", the highest honor given to a scoutmaster. One of the highlights for him in his Scouting was the trip he made to Philmont, New Mexico with a group of Scoutmasters. He obviously had a love for camping in the outdoors. He served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. One of his greatest joys the time he spent with his wife, Agnes, and raising their sons in their new home. He was a member of the Cross Key Lions Club, Vineville Baptist Church and Sunday school. He was an avid Square Dancer and had a love for music. He was preceded in death by a brother: James Ulysees Horton and two sisters: Annie Ruth Horton Odom and Polly Horton Oxford.

Mr. Horton is survived by his wife: Agnes Livingston Horton of Macon; three sons: James David (Beverly) Horton, Don (Carmen Flynn) Horton and Tim Horton; six Grandchildren: Garin (Maggie) Flanders, William Ryan Horton, Brandon Alan Horton, Mary Katherine Horton, Trevor Blackwell and Kelsey Erin Horton; three great-Grandchildren: John Tyler, James Michael Horton and Dallas Bradyn Horton.
