MACON, GA—Mr. Harry P. Smith, 75, died Thursday afternoon, April 4, 2013 in a local hospital. He fought bravely against many ailments for many years. Graveside services will be held in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 o’clock, on Sunday April 7. The Rev. Mike Fuller will officiate. The family will receive friends at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday from noon until service time.
Mr. Smith was born in Tifton, GA to the late Edward Buren and Mattie Rilla Beck Smith. He graduated from Lanier High School, class of 1956. Mr. Smith served in the US Navy as a PR2 (Parachute Rigger Second Class) for 10 years, during the Vietnam Era. He later retired from ADM (formerly Proctor and Gamble) and was a member at Cross Keys United Methodist Church. Beyond his family, Mr. Smith’s love was found in the SPEBSQSA (Barbershop Harmony Society).
Surviving Mr. Smith are his wife of 56 years, Connie W. Smith; daughters, Cathy (Chuck) Perdue, Leigh (Joe) Lee; granddaughters, Bailey (Cameron) Emerson, Jennifer (Daniel) Mitchell, Sara (Greg) Griffin, Emily Lee; great grandson, Grey Emerson; sister, Awilda Tanksley; brothers, Felton (Pat) Smith, Cecil (Eileen) Smith, Al (Gail) Smith; brother in law, Craig (Peg) Wynn; numerous nieces and nephews.
