Dorothy “Jeanne” Culpepper Goodson passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2021. Due to the Corona Virus pandemic, private graveside services will be held for family only in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Avenue, Macon 31204, or the donor’s favorite charity.
Mrs. Goodson was born August 2, 1931, in Franklin County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late William Goss Culpepper and Ossie Payne Culpepper. Mrs. Goodson graduated from Toccoa High School, Toccoa, Georgia, with honors. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Library Science from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia, as well as the Phoenix Honor Society award. Mrs. Goodson received a Masters of Education degree and a Specialist of Education degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Mrs. Goodson received a Masters in Librarianship from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Goodson was employed with the Bibb County Board of Education as a teacher and librarian and retired from Washington Memorial Library as Head of Technical Services.
Mrs. Goodson was an active and charter member of Riverside United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Beaty-Gray Sunday School class, a Sunday School teacher and church librarian, and a Girl Scout leader.
Mrs. Goodson loved American history and genealogy research. She was a member and former Chapter Regent of Nathaniel Macon Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. Goodson was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars, Society of Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge, First Families of Georgia, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, Jamestowne Society, National Society Magna Charter Dames and Barons, Order of Alba, Order of Descendants of the Justiciars, Colonial Order of the Crown, Colonial Williamsburg, National Guild of St. Margaret of Scotland, and the Plantagenet Society.
Mrs. Goodson is survived by her husband of 69 years, William O. Goodson; daughters, Cynthia Leigh Goodson of Macon and Margaret Ann Boylan (Paul) of Bozeman, Montana; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
