David Cornelius Tolbert, Jr., 83, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Shell officiating. The family will meet friends on Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Snow’s Memorial Chapel, Pio Nono Ave., Macon GA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Liberty United Methodist Church, 6511 Houston Road, Macon GA 31216.
David was born in McKenzie, AL to the late David C. and Lillie Susan Biggs Tolbert, Sr. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Almon Tolbert, James Tolbert and Eugene Tolbert and a sister, Pauline Gorum. Mr. Tolbert served in the United States Army/Air Force and while in service he received two commendation Medals for Meritorious Service while in VN and in Germany. He was awarded a certificate from the Netherlands representative for his emergency care to Madame Von Muehlen. He was awarded an Honorable Discharge from the USAF in December of 1970 as a testimonial of Honest and Faithful Service. David played bass and sang country music with bands in Germany and Macon for many years. Mr. Tolbert was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. He was retired from Armstrong World Industries as a Security Guard. David was a wonderful, sweet loving and devoted husband, daddy, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of fifty eight years, Shirley Martin Tolbert of Macon, son, Randy (Sonya) Tolbert of Macon, daughters, Melanie (Tim) Crye of Rossville, GA, Robin (John) Olliver of Lawrence, GA, and Amy (Jeff) Willis of Bryon, GA, nine grandchildren, Brandi Ray, Jamie Smith, David Tolbert, Tyler Tolbert, Miranda Simpson, Matthew Olliver, Lillie Olliver, Anna Willis and Hunter Willis, and five great grandchildren, Braeden Holland, Bristal Ray, Drue Simpson, Jewelle Simpson, and Xander Simpson, and brothers, Ronald Tolbert of Arizona, and John Tolbert of Forsyth and several nieces and nephews.
