Albert “Al” Layfayette Smith, 87, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 surrounded by his family. A Visitation/Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Fuller and Reverend David Knight officiating. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon GA 31210.
Al was born in Tifton, Georgia to the late Edward Buren and Mattie Rilla Beck Smith. He was preceded in death by his son, Stan Smith. He served his country in the United States Marine Corp and was a member of the Marine Corp League, Detachment 970. Al was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. He was a founding member of the National Vintage Racing Association. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Gail M. Smith of Jeffersonville; daughter, Sasha (Mike) Edge of Cochran; son, Mike (Del) Fuller of Juliette; five grandchildren, Gabe, Seth, Skyler, Ty and Riley; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
