Thomas Walter Cook, age 89, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Tom was born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin on January 16, 1934 to Walter and Anna Cook. In 1952 he graduated from Pulaski High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Right out of high school Tom decided to join the Air Force. He proudly served his Country from 1952 to 1956, he served in Japan and Alaska as a naval runner, radio operator and morse code translator during his 4 years. When Tom returned home he had a couple jobs before finding his career at Chrysler in Belvidere, IL. He worked there for 33 years. He was an avid bowler at Don Carter and Park Lanes, enjoyed reading the newspaper, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards.
Tom is survived by his wife, Benita Jo Cook; children, Thomas M. (Sharon) Cook, Fred W. (Bonnie) Cook, Debi (Shawn) Bates, Randy A. (Laurie) Cook, Suzanne M. (Tim) Ewald, Rhonda L. (Rich) Youngberg; step children, Jodi Huffman and Heidi (Joe) Petrow; grandchildren, Tracy, Jamie, Ryan, Erik, Cherea', Benjamin, Chandra, Bryce, Lexi, Richard, and Ragan; great grandchildren, Liam, Parker, Levi, Luke, Ayden, Keegan, Cameron, Randy, and Skye; step grandchildren, Kiefer, Kabel, Korbyn, Logan, Seth, and Holly; step great grandchild, Gunner; sister, Donna Gloyd; numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anna Cook.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023 from 9am until the time of service at 10am at Sunset Funeral Home (8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park, IL 61115). Entombment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace.
