Semonia Smith, 80 of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2019. Born July 19, 1938 in Iota, Louisiana. Daughter of Robert and Mary Semien. Semonia was a firm believer with the Lord and enjoyed her Catholic faith. Semonia’s working career span from waitressing, to factory work, to cleaning larger homes, gardening, to house sitting and even babysitting. She was not shy of working. She found great enjoyment in cooking, canning things from her gardening with her sisters, upholstery work and sewing. Anytime spent with family was a great time. She even traveled frequently to Texas and Louisiana to spend time with her family.
Survived by her daughter, Romona (Johnny Lottie); granddaughter that she raised like her daughter, Semonia Bell; grandchildren, Darrell Jensen Jr, Daniel Jensen, Sands Abdul-Samuad; great-grandchildren, Senia, Branae, Azala, Ruqia, Ja Mi, Hassun; sisters, Mildred Marshall, Linda Hughes; special cousins, Aubrey Semien, Wilson Semien; best friend, Virginia Blackwell; special friend, Cheri Carlson; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; sisters, Julia Hill, Alice Joseph, Mary Pete, Barbara Peterson; brothers, Benjamin Semien, Junior Semien; special cousin, Anthony Semien.
Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Visitation at 10 a.m. until time of service.
