Richard O. Roberson

Richard Otis Roberson, 82, of Machesney Park, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family and loved ones on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. Born January 23, 1935 in Pleasant Plains, AR to Otis and Alli Dale (Mitchell) Roberson. After high school he attended Arkansas State College where he starred on the Basketball team. Enlisted in the United States Navy where he was in Special Services stationed in Lake Hurst, New Jersey from 1957-1963. Moved to Rockford at 27 years old where he met and married Linda Poorman on June 15, 1963.

He began his career as a cement finisher for Local 11 in 1964. Richard was employed by Scandroli Construction from 1978 until retiring in 2004 at the age of 69. Even after retiring he always stayed busy being the neighborhood lawn mower. He loved the Cubs, golfing and watching sports. He was hard working and loved his family.

Survived by his wife, Linda; children, Paula (Leon) Creton, Becky (Chris) Woollacott, Rick (Karen) Roberson, Pam (Mark) Neubauer; 9 grandchildren, Courtney (Chris) Strobel, Brittany Neubauer, Breanna (Brian) Andersen, Kelly Creton, Emma Woollacott, Abby Woollacott, Grace Woollacott, Gabrielle Roberson, Samantha Roberson; brother, Harold Roberson; sister, Nora Hager. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Juanita Bergstrom and Evelyn VanLangeghan. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the family to be established at a later date.

Funeral Service at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 2 at Riverside Community Church, 6816 N. 2nd St, Machesney Park. Visitation Monday 9 a.m. until time of service and Visitation Sunday, October 1 at 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
