Marlene Rae Burrows

Marlene Rae Burrows, age 90, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024. She was born on August 19, 1933 in Almond, Wisconsin to Bess (Blanchard). She married the love of her life, V. Lee Burrows, on June 6, 1985. Marlene worked at AT&T as a telephone operator for many years, leading her to join the AT&T Telephone Pioneers. She was also a part of the VFW and the Verdi Club.

Marlene enjoyed playing BINGO, cards, and dice. She liked cooking for her family, trips to the casino, and traveling. Marlene was a huge dog lover. She hand crocheted afghans for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Susan (James) Bishop, Shelley (Tim) Johnson, Scott Sloan, and Christina Correll; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Burrows; daughter, Cindy Lamb; great-granddaughter, Aria Sloan; parents, Bess and Joseph Kauschinger; and sister, Charlotte Stadler.

A memorial visitation for Marlene will be held Friday, April 12, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 8800 North Alpine Road, Machesney Park, Illinois 61115, followed by a funeral service at 5:00 PM.
