Chuck Fletcher's journey here on Earth came to an end on Saturday, May 6th, after a valiant struggle with complications from pneumonia. His entire professional life was spent impacting lives in the Harlem School district where he signed his first teaching contract in 1962 and remained there until his retirement in 1999. He always taught math and branched out into the coaching arena in wrestling, retiring officially in 2003, but always available to help whenever needed. In addition to wrestling, he coached track and swimming.
He was a member of Riverside Community Church. On Mondays, he helped "the ladies" count money and on Fridays, he ate donuts and helped "the guys" clean the church.
He is survived by Judy, his wife of over 60 years, as well as his two daughters, Kris and Jill, both Harlem graduates, still living and working in the area. In addition, he has his two granddaughters, Mariela and Daniela, who he helped bring home from Guatemala and who continue to bring our family such joy. He was looking forward to gaining a son-in-law later this summer. Even his beloved dog of 13 years, Elle, is a female!
Services will be private with Bobby Sheets assisting chuck on his journey, as well as supporting our family as we navigate life after "coach". There will be a Celebration of Life later in June at Riverside Community Church. Please feel free to join us at that time to celebrate Chuck and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, treasure your time with your families and make lots of good memories together. Chuck loved to sit on the patio feeding and watching the birds. They will miss him, as we do already.
