Cecil "Bob" R. Brown

Cecil R. “Bob” Brown, 89, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Monday evening, April 24, 2023 at River Bluff Care Center. He was born May 3, 1933 in Iuka, IL, the son of Cecil Ray and Flossie (Bass) Brown. Bob served in the United States Army and went on to work in construction for 42 years. He married Vernie Ramsey on June 17, 1972 in Rockford. Bob enjoyed camping and square dancing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Bob is loved and missed by his children, Debbie (Tom) Wayman, Cecil (Betty) Brown, Jay (Dee Becker) Brown, Paul (Cathy) Ramsey, Barb (John) Thomas, Kristina (Bobby) Spradlin and Jackie McElyea; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; half-sister, Jana Rae Krager; sister-in-laws, Ruth Fulton-Anderson and Jane Fulton. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vernie, son-in-law, Dewey McElyea, uncles who were like his brothers, John and Rudy Fulton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of River Bluff, especially the Eagle Unit, for their loving and compassionate care of Bob.

A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115 with a graveside service to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
