It’s with great sadness that the family of Thomas R Winkelvoss announces his passing after a hard fought battle with cancer, on August 19, 2021, at the age of 74 years old. He is survived by his children Kurt Winkelvoss, Matt Winkelvoss and wife Susan, Kathy Norman and husband Jeff; grandchildren Luke Winkelvoss, Ty Winkelvoss, Lexi Winkelvoss, Ashton Johnson, Kade Norman, Zach Winkelvoss; and two great grandchildren Ramsey and Kimber.
He is preceded in death by his parents William and Jean Winkelvoss and his beloved wife Joan Winkelvoss.
Tom graduated from Irving High School and attended North Texas State University before joining the Dallas Fire Department. He retired as a captain after 32 years of service to a profession he loved. He was awarded the Medal of Valor for saving a baby trapped in a burning apartment. This is a true example of how he lived his life, always others before self. After retiring from the fire department, he poured his heart into his fencing and custom railing fabrication business, Wink & Sons, where he proudly served the lake area until learning of his illness in May.
He adored his family and was married to the love of his life for over 50 years before losing her in 2017. He loved all things pertaining to his kids and grandkids, from their sporting events to the professions they chose to pursue. He was kind, hardworking, extremely humble and always had a smile on his face. He was a member of Four Mile Lutheran Church. He will be missed by all that knew him. Until we meet again Dad!
