Our wife and Mom, Linda Nell Athey Engel passed into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Baylor Scott-White hospital with her loving husband Steven and family at her side. Linda was born on September 1947 and was married to Steven Eric Engel December 17, 1977. She grew up in the Mabank area where she attended public school and graduated in 1966. After graduation she began her college education at Henderson County Junior College, where she was Drum Major and transferred to East Texas State University, where she completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Her teaching career included Grand Saline, Wills Point, Canton and then she settled in Mabank, of which the taught until her retirement in 2014. She enjoyed the difference she made in the lives of her students.
Linda met Steve Engel in August of 1977, and it was love at first sight. They married on December 17, 1977, and were married for more than 46 years. They loved each other very much and supported each other through the obstacles and challenges of life as well as the joy and pleasures. They were blessed to have three wonderful children. Kristina Nicole, Stephanie Michelle and Kyle Eric. Their biggest blessing were their three granddaughters whom they loved very much. Kyleigh Kristine, Kynleigh Nicole, and Easton Kyle will miss their Noni very much. Linda was blessed to witness Kyleigh graduate from Mabank High School in 2022. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in Rodeo basketball and soccer.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents Arthur Lee Athey, Evna Mae, Plesant Athey. Her, brother Richard Lee Athey, sister, Billie Jean Athey, and brother Michael Warren Athey. Linda is survived by her loving husband, Steven Engel, daughter Kristi Engel-Wooster and husband Pete Wooster, her daughter Stephanie and husband Damon Smith and her son Kyle and wife Michelle Engel. She is also survived by her three granddaughters, Kyleigh Kristine and Kynleigh Nicole Smith and Easton Kyle Engel. She leaves behind sister in loves, Molly Eichenberger and Linda Hunt.
Services will be at Elm Grove Church on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 1 pm. All flowers and cards can be sent to Eubank Funeral Home in Mabank. State Highway 198, 601 E. Walnut St, Mabank, TX 75147.
