Joe Tommy Knight passed away peacefully on Saturday July 31, 2021 surrounded by family after a long battle with kidney disease. Joe was born to parents Joseph Thomas Knight and Helen (Babb) Knight on September 28, 1943 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Joe honorably served his country by joining the United States Army in 1962 to 1965. A few years later he proudly served his community for 25 years in Law Enforcement. In his spare time Joe loved to go fishing, hunting, working in his garden and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He took great pride in his yearly crop of homegrown tomatoes and LOVED sharing with anyone and everyone.
Joe Tommy Knight was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Knight and Helen (Babb) Knight, his son Steve Knight and his sister Teresa Evans.
He is survived by his loving wife Sue Knight of 43 years, three sisters: Nancy Phillips, Carol McElroy and Pattie Hilliard; four children: Wendi Duncan and Husband Brad of Mabank, Texas, Jennifer Ashcraft and Husband Ricky of Kemp, Texas, Dana Mathison of North Richland Hills, Texas and David Knight and wife Tami of Willow Park, Texas; 15 grandchildren: Catlynn, Bailey and Bryson Ashcraft, Kennedy Jo, Jaxson, Presley and Lexi Duncan, Amanda Welch, Daniel Beshiri, Tanner and Christopher Knight, Sharla Elkins, Brian and Keith Knight and Stevi Smith, his loving mother in law Mary Ellen Adair and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other beloved family and friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation for Joe will be held Friday, August 6, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Christian Life Center Church, 2611 W Main St., Gun Barrel City, Texas. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2:00 PM, 2611 W Main St., Gun Barrel City, Texas. A military graveside service will occur Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Cedar Creek Cemetery, 16701 State Highway 198 North, Mabank, Texas 75147.
