August 20, 1962 – July 31, 2021
Billy was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1997 at the age of 35. After enduring 12 years of chemo treatments, Billy received a stem cell transplant from his brother Jess on May 28th, 2009. It was a success and Billy remained cancer free for the next 12 years. Unfortunately, the years of chemo damaged his heart beyond repair. He had just been accepted onto the heart transplant list in June of this year from the University of Washington. He had an amazing heart team, and we thank all his doctors and nurses for the wonderful years of care they gave him. He was looking forward to getting a new heart as his strength and heart function was getting worse.
Sadly, Billy’s heart stopped on July 31, 2021, at age 58. He was class of 1980 attending Nathan Hale High School and graduating at Bothell High School.
Billy spent most of his life doing what he loved most – cooking! He worked at the Edge Water Inn, Fish House Charlies and the Yarrow Bay Grill.
He last worked for Shawn O’Donnell’s Restaurants. We can’t thank Shawn enough for allowing all the personal time off for Billy’s health issues including many hospital stays and doctor appointments. Shawn always welcomed Billy back when he was ready.
Billy had a passion for life! He loved the outdoors. He loved going to Leavenworth and Lake Chelan. His hobbies included, Snow Skiing, Golf, River rafting, Fantasy Football & Poker.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sam & Hilda Lyda. His brothers Tony & David. He is survived by his brothers Jess Lyda (Julie) and Scott Lyda.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Billy’s 59th birthday, August 20, 2021- 4pm to 8pm at Jess & Julie Lyda’s. 23032 14th Pl. W. Bothell, WA 98021. (Jess 206-851-3039)
In lieu of flowers, Billy would love that you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society (Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma).
