Gladys May Deats Young passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of February 12, 2012. She resided for the last five years at Spiritwood at Pine Lake in Sammamish, WA. She was born March 25, 1921, to Ida & Guy Deats in Lincoln, Nebraska. After graduation from Lincoln High School, she would work as a legal secretary, and then worked in Washington, DC, for the Navy Department. She married Jerold D. Young, (also from Lincoln, Nebraska) in 1942, and then moved to Seattle, WA. They lived in North Seattle and Kenmore, WA for 50 years. Gladys was a longtime active member at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Kenmore, WA. Jerry and their infant son Gary preceded her in death. She worked in Seattle for the IRS for many years and retired from there. She is survived by 3 children and their spouses, Carol Marshall (Gerry) of Hollywood, Florida, Linda Jones (Rick) of Spokane, WA, and son Rob Young (Diane) of Issaquah, WA. as well as her 4 grandchildren, Stefanie Marshall of Walnut Creek, CA, Gary Jones of Spokane, WA, Lacey Young of Issaquah, WA, and Oliver Young of Issaquah, WA. She was also preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Claude Deats of Denver, CO. Donald Deats of Beatrice, NE. and Charles Deats of Lincoln, NE.
A graveside service will be held at Floral Hills Cemetery, 409 Filbert Road, in Lynnwood, WA, 98036 at 10:30am on March 10th, 2012. A celebration of her life will be held following the service in the Sammamish area at 1:00 pm. Donations can go to your favorite local Lutheran Church or to ALS Research.
