Born Bernice Anna Martin, January 23, 1918 in Seattle, Washington, passed away March 21, 2014 at the age of 96 in Everett, Washington.
Bernice was born to James P. Martin and Anna Martin and grew up in the Rainier Valley area of Seattle. She lived in the Seattle area her whole life. She had one sibling her beloved brother James Martin whom preceded her in death. Bernice played sports/basketball as a young girl and her love of bowling and golf continued into her retirement years.
Bernice graduated from Franklin High School in 1934 along with her brother Jimmy and attended Business College. She was a very smart and talented woman who worked in the business world her whole adult life and worked for over twenty-five years for an aerospace company, Eldec Corporation until her retirement in 1984 as a Supervisor of Contracts.
Married to Allon S. Stone in 1952, Bernice had two children Pamela and Allon. She was a full time working mother in an era when it was not the norm but was very active in all her children’s activities as well as involvement in church roles, weekly bowling league, but most importantly caring for her family and friends. Family highlights were summers spent at recreation property at Lake Limerick in Shelton, Washington.
After her husband Allon’s passing, Bernice married James McDonnell in 1983. They not only shared their retirement years together with wonderful trips, golfing, etc. They combined their two families into one and her most cherished times were with the large extended family as it continued to grow over the years with the addition of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by James after 23 years of marriage. Bernice continued to enjoy her large extended family and she is survived by her four children and spouses, daughter Pamela Klopfer (Edward), Son Allon J. Stone (Kimberly) Judith Keithley (Perry) James McDonnell Jr., Ten grandchildren, Jennifer Sea, Todd Keithley, Blair Keithley, Ryan McDonnell, Tara Stone, Amy Brooks, Dana McDonnell, Kyle Klopfer, Joseph Stone, Makayla Stone, and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the sender’s choice.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends, with internment and reception following, will be held at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood, Washington on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 1:00 PM.
