The family moved to Bothell, WA at age 8. Graduated from Bothell High School Class of 1956. Married high school sweetheart Margie Gustafson from Lake Washington High School.
Resided in Kirkland, WA for 14 years. Graduated from Seattle Pacific (College) University class of 1960 with a degree in education. Employed by the Shoreline School District and taught at Aldercrest Elementary for 6 years, and Kellogg (Jr. High) Middle School until retirement in 1990. Not only did he enjoy the many years in the classroom, but was involved in extracurricular activities such as coaching, officiating at sporting events, and other activities. He most enjoyed teaching Scandinavian folk dancing to hundreds of kids at Kellogg, and the Kellogg Nordic Folk Dancers provided entertainment through the greater Seattle area for 20 years. In 1973 Art and Margie returned to the Bothell area until 1987. In 1987 they moved to Camano Island where Art lived for 26 years.
In 1999 his wife Margie passed away and he later married Wava J. Bair. They continued to live on Camano Island until they moved to Everett, WA in 2014.
He always enjoyed serving others and helping them in any way he could. Art enjoyed the outdoors, landscaping, building projects, and spending the winters in Arizona. He was a longtime member of Camano Chapel where he was involved in serving the Lord in many ways. He was preceded in death by his father Russell N. Nicholas, mother Eleanor G. Nicholas, and first wife, Margie M. Nicholas. He is survived by his wife Wava J. Nicholas of Everett, WA; brother Kenneth L. Nicholas (Pat) of Chelan, WA; foster son Michael D. Chapman of Shoreline, WA; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service held at Camano Chapel, 867 S West Camano Dr. Camano Island, on June 9, 2016 at 11:00 am.
