Joseph Patrick Carmody, of Nahant, passed away on November 4, 2022, at the age of 91. He was the husband of June (Broatch) Carmody, with whom he shared 69 cherished years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late John F. Carmody and Mary E. (Cremin) Carmody.
Joseph graduated from Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1951, where he excelled as an athlete, quarterbacked the football team, and starred on the hockey team.
Joseph proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Radio Operator during the Korean War and was awarded a National Defense Service Ribbon. He completed a successful career as a manager within the telephone company and served as a reserve Police Officer for the Town of Nahant.
Joseph was involved in many organizations and notably served as former Grand Knight for the Nahant Knights of Columbus and was awarded Irishman of the Year. He also volunteered as a coach for the Nahant Little League and Lynn Youth Hockey.
Joseph enjoyed traveling with June and their many friends and family. He was known for his practical jokes, and always managed to make everyone laugh.
In addition to his wife, Joseph leaves behind his three children, Kim Carmody, Karen Carmody and her partner Kenneth LeBlanc, and Kevin Carmody and his wife Kristin, all of Nahant. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Jason Carmody and his wife Alyssa of Lynn, James Osborne Jr. of Salem, Steven St. Ives of Nahant, Corey Carmody and his wife Caitlin of Nahant, Joshua LeBlanc of Louisiana, and Casey Carmody and her fiancé Joseph Ragusa of Nahant. Joseph is also survived by his four great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
Joseph was predeceased by his siblings Patrick Carmody, John Carmody, Dorothy (Carmody) Gareri, Rita (Carmody) Godbout, Eugene Carmody, Claire (Carmody) Curry, and Marie (Carmody) Burke.
A visitation will be held for Joseph on Thursday, November 10 from 9 AM-10:30 AM in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn, followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant.
