Dorothy Alice (Scranton) Sanderson, age 95, of Swampscott, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Advinia Care in Salem. She was the beloved wife of the late John “Doug” Sanderson and the devoted companion of the late Frederick “Bud” Sanderson.
Dorothy was born and raised in Lynn in the Fay Estate to the late Stewart and Florence (Myers) Scranton. She was the dear sister to Stuart Scranton, of Georgetown and the late Edith Mazola. Dorothy was the cherished mother of Carole L. and her late husband, Ted Carritte of Lynn, Ruthie A. and her late husband, Arthur Kanellos, of Methuen, and John F. Sanderson, of Lawrence, the dear grandmother to Amanda and her husband, Garrette DeFrancisco, Adam W. Carritte and his wife, Trisha, April B. and her husband, Bruce Young, Rebecca A. “Becky” and her husband, Jeff Stone, Arthur Kanellos, and Erin and her husband, Manny Ataide, the great grandmother to Tessa and Ned DeFrancisco, Delaney and Riley Carritte, Grace, Lilah, and Bruce Young, Sadie and Savannah Stone, and Avery and Ashton Ataide. She was the aunt to the late Dana Mazola and his wife, Florene, and the late Richard Sanderson, and a grateful mention to her favorite nieces, Noreen Berkland, and Susan Conti, and many special nephews.
She will be remembered for being full of life, her love of road trips, having fun at Foxwoods, going to yard sales, and all the stories she told. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends are invited to Dorothy's Graveside Service on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:00 am in the Swampscott Cemetery, 400 Essex Street, Swampscott.
