William Clyde Maddox, 80, of Covington, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at The Woodlands Nursing Home in Clifton Forge.
Born in Lynchburg, March 11, 1933, he was a son of the late Hollie Lee Maddox and Mary McHaney Maddox. He was self-employed most of his working life and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. during the Korean conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John Randall Maddox; two brothers, Hollie L. Maddox, Jr. and Donald M. Maddox and one sister, Nellie H. Clements.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty M. Hertzler and her husband Dean of Lynchburg and Deborah M. Tyree and her husband Sonny of Covington; one son, William C. Maddox, Jr. and his wife Susan of Lynchburg; three sisters, Christine M. Hammock of Lynchburg, Madeline C. Shelton of Chicago and Mildred M. Power of Lynchburg; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews including a special niece Sandra Lee.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Dennis Nicely officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
