William “Bill” Leslie Cothran Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024, at the age of 73. Bill was born on May 18, 1951, and lived a life full of laughter, love, and dedication.
A proud Nationwide Insurance Agent, Bill was not only successful in his career, winning accolades such as the Nationwide President’s Club, Challenger’s Club, and Life Executive Council, but he was also a member of the Elks Lodge, where he built lasting relationships. Known for his love of golfing, Bill won several tournaments throughout his life. He spent countless happy hours on the course, and cherished time on the waters of Smith Mountain Lake and Ocean Isle Beach. Playing cards, listening to country music, and sharing jokes were some of his favorite pastimes. Bill was truly the life of the party, known for bringing joy and laughter to everyone around him.
Above all, Bill’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 53 years, Sharon Cothran, and a loving father to his sons, Wes and the late Chris Cothran. His granddaughter, Bianca, was the light of his life, and he treasured every moment he spent with her.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Anne Cothran; his son, Chris Cothran; his sister, Becky Cothran; and his brother, Bo Cothran. He leaves behind his wife Sharon, his son Wes, and his cherished granddaughter Bianca, who will continue to honor his memory.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m., with the funeral service taking place on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel in Lynchburg, Virginia, officiated by Carol Tyree. In keeping with Bill’s vibrant spirit, the family requests that all who attend do so in casual attire.
