Born March 31, 1957 in Burlington North Carolina, Steven was a retired customer service and production specialist of 26 years. He was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for a number of years. It was well known that Steven was an avid fan of Duke’s basketball team and wore their colors to celebrate his passion. As Steven was battling pulmonary fibrosis, he never let it show to those he loved. Even as he fought, Steven embodied a gentle and humble nature. No matter what challenges he faced Steven maintained a very positive attitude and would not let it get him down. His faith was extremely important to him, and his love for his Lord carried him as he fought this disease. Steven faced each and every day with courage and made sure he made his love for his family known.
Steven was preceded in death by his father Walter E. Johnston; his sister Phyllis Coggins and her husband Furman Coggins.
Left to cherish Steven’s memory is his wife Tammy M.
