Born on August 12, 1945 in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of the late Roy D. West, Sr. and Sara F. West. He graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor's Degree. Don was employed as an IT Manager for many years at GE/Ericsson prior to his retirement. He was an avid golfer and was able to play at notable golf courses such as St. Andrews in Scotland and Pebble Beach in California. He loved building things, especially home renovating and woodworking. He took pride working in his yard and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. His greatest joy in life however came from spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Penny Thomas-West; his daughter Jennifer West Ruegger and her husband Kevin of Atlanta, grandchildren Gavin and Rylie Ruegger; two brothers, Rick West (Debbie) and Randy West (Lyn); sister-in-law Kay Thomas (John Boone), sister-in-law Fay Coleman and brother-in-law Keith, brother-in-law Rocky Thomas (LeAnna), brother-in-law James Thomas and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Don's life will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Dr. David Turner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Casual attire is strongly encouraged by the family.
