Born on March 26, 1952 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late James Tyree and Edna Shepard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine M. Tyree; and three sisters, Barbara Collins, Helen Farrar and Arlene Floyd.
He had worked for over 20 years at Lynchburg City Sheriff’s Department as a Lt. Deputy Sheriff prior to his retirement. He was a longtime member of Jordan Baptist Church and served for many years as the Minister of music. He loved to sing and was actively involved in children’s ministries.
He is survived by three children, Mary Beth Overstreet and husband Ryan of Blue Ridge, William Anderson Tyree and wife Joy of Concord, and Charity Lynn Peters and husband Pete of Madison Heights; and six grandchildren, Allie Tyree, Trace Peters, Anderson Tyree, Grace Peters, Alex Tyree and Griffin Peters; sister Peggy Knight; and brother Jack Tyree and his wife Jean.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be conducted on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Jordan Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Melvin Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church.
