Charles Lenward “June” White, Jr. 89 of Lynchburg passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mary Oliver White for 70 years.
Born on November 30, 1926 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Charles Lenward White and Annie Knight White.
Charles served our country in the United States Navy during WWII where he was an Amphibious Landing Coxswain Operator. After the military, he began his career with Mead Corporation, where he was known at “Whitey” and retired as a machine operator after 44 years of service. Charles was an antique car enthusiast and a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Kendall White and his sister, Winifred White Pugh.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Charles is survived by his son, Gary White and wife Sue; daughter, Sandy Banton and husband Sam; grandchildren, David White, Mary Wood and husband Russ, Laura White, Phillip Banton and wife Kim, and Brian Banton and wife Jamie; great grandchildren, Jordan White, Blake White, Graham Wood, Jackson White, Emma White, Emily Young, and Abbey Banton; step-great grandson, Will Lowther; his faithful companion, Rusty; and numerous friends and family members.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ava Freeman for her excellent care of Charles.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Gary White and David Pugh officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.
