Dennis Walter Biggs Jr. was born April 29, 1926, in Lumberton, North Carolina, the youngest child of Dennis Walter Biggs and Flora McNeill. Dennis passed away June 4, 2015 in Spokane, Washington. He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters Ellen, and Ruth and brother Chalmers Biggs.
He attended Duke University, Durham, N.C. from 1943 – 1945 in pre-med and he attended Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was a veteran of the US Navy and Air Force.
He married Amy June Carter in 1947. He moved to Spokane in 1964 where there was hunting, fishing and skiing. He was employed by the Spokane VA Medical Center from 1964 to 1991 as Chief, Nuclear Medicine Service, and Staff Internist. He was a life member of the Spokane Rifle Club. He and June spent many weekends at Deer Lake. He enjoyed sharing photos and stories of his hunting and fishing with friends and family. June passed away in 1993.
He married Claudia Hecker in 1994 and became active in the Inland Empire Dahlia Society, the Spokane Camera Club, the Spokane Valley Camera Club and the YMCA. He was a member of the Tobacco- Free Washington and worked very hard to convince the general public to vote on passing the Clean Indoor Initiative 901 making work places smoke-free. He loved being a greeter at church.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia, and sons Joe Biggs and D. Walter Biggs III, step children Thom and Terry Hecker, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, November 1st, 2015 at New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton, NC.
