Shirley Marie Harris

Funeral service for Shirley Marie Harris, 87, of Diboll, will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Gipson Funeral Home with Reverend David Goodwin officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest at Ryan Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harris was born December 18, 1936 in Angelina County, daughter to the late Lee and Johnnie (Warner) Myers. She passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

Shirley was well-loved, strong-minded, and conservative. She made sure her children, grandchildren, and everyone around her was well-behaved. She was also known for “the look.” In her free time, she enjoyed sewing crocheting, knitting, and playing games. She was a huge Diboll Lumberjacks’ fan. Shirley was the secretary of the First Methodist Church of Diboll for 35 years.

Survivors include daughters, Jimmie Lee Porter and husband, Brandall, and Janie Mettlen; grandchildren, Wendi Ogielat, Dustin Harris and wife, Jennifer, Erica Mettlen, Jim Mettlen and wife, Trish Guillory, and Richard Porter and wife, Sarah; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Jim Harris; sisters, Opal Patrick and husband, Hobart “Red” Patrick, and Alice Halsell and husband, Carl Halsell; granddaughter, Jennifer Mettlen; and son-in-law, Eric Mettlen.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Harris, Richard Porter, Jim Mettlen, Chris Ward, John Mettlen, and Stephen Barron.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Harris, Bob Halsell, David Mettlen, and Patsy Andrade.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church of Diboll.
