Services for Ray Welton Evans, 80, of Zavalla, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2019 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jackson Colwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Zavalla Cemetery.
Mr. Evans was born October 31, 1939 in San Augustine County, Texas, the son of the late Violet (Tabitha) and Daniel Madison Evans. He passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at his residence.
Mr. Evans was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and loved his family. He was employed as a logger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors. He was known for his love of gardening. Mr. Evans was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Billy Ray Evans of Zavalla, Delton Wayne Evans of Huntington, Michael (Red) Evans and wife Evie Jo of Warren, Bobby Joe Evans and wife Mary of Huntington, and Danny Billeaudeau and wife Robbie of Lufkin; daughter, Deborah Kay Calhoun of Conroe; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Margaret Sue Evans, in 2006; and his brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be B. J. Evans, Wesley Grimes, Alex Calhoun, Cannon Evans, Michael Jay Evans and Steven Evans.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
